CBDC
Central Bank Digital Currency
A CBDC is a digital form of fiat currency issued by a central bank. It represents a direct claim on the central bank, similar to cash, but in digital form.
CBDCs can be retail (for the public) or wholesale (for financial institutions). They aim to improve payment efficiency and access while remaining distinct from decentralized cryptocurrencies. The Bahamas' Sand Dollar is a CBDC for the Bahamian dollar.
