Check Number
A check number is a unique sequential number printed on each check to help account holders track and reference their checks. It appears in the upper right corner and in the MICR line.
Check numbers help with reconciliation by allowing you to match cleared checks on your statement with your check register. Banks may flag out-of-sequence check numbers as a fraud prevention measure. The number is recorded in a check register for reconciliation.
