CUP
Cuban Peso
CUP is the official currency of Cuba, also known as 'moneda nacional'. It is issued by the Central Bank of Cuba (Banco Central de Cuba) and is subdivided into 100 centavos.
In 2021, Cuba unified its currency system by abolishing the convertible peso (CUC), making the Cuban peso the sole legal tender. The official exchange rate is set by the central bank, but informal market rates often differ significantly. The CUP is a closed currency that cannot be traded internationally.
