MOP

Macanese Pataca

MOP is the official currency of Macau. It is managed by the Monetary Authority of Macao and is subdivided into 100 avos.

The pataca operates under a currency board system, pegged to the Hong Kong dollar at HKD 1 = MOP 1.03. Banknotes are issued by two commercial banks (Banco Nacional Ultramarino and Bank of China), not the monetary authority. Despite being official currency, Hong Kong dollars account for most circulation.
