NSF
Non-Sufficient Funds
NSF refers to the status of a checking account that does not have enough money to cover a transaction. When a check or electronic payment is presented for payment but the account lacks sufficient funds, the transaction is declined.
NSF fees are typically charged by banks when a transaction bounces due to insufficient funds. On your bank statement, NSF transactions appear as returned items, often accompanied by a fee. This differs from overdraft, where the bank may cover the shortfall temporarily.
