PCI DSS is a set of security standards designed to ensure that all companies that accept, process, store, or transmit credit card information maintain a secure environment.

Compliance with PCI DSS is required for any business that handles credit card data. The standards include requirements for secure networks, encrypted data, access controls, and regular security testing. U.S. financial institutions also follow privacy rules under GLBA.
