x402
x402 is an internet-native payments protocol that lets services request payment directly in HTTP responses. It uses the HTTP 402 Payment Required status code to signal that a payment is needed before a request can proceed, enabling API monetization and microtransactions.
The standard builds on the semantics of HTTP 402 to enable machine-readable payment flows, often integrating with a payment processor. Specification: x402.org.
