GIP
Gibraltar Pound
GIP is the official currency of Gibraltar. It is issued by the Government of Gibraltar and is subdivided into 100 pence.
The pound has been pegged at parity to British sterling since 1898. Gibraltar has issued its own banknotes since 1927 and coins since 1988. Notes are backed by Bank of England notes or Gibraltar government securities. While GIP is legal tender alongside Bank of England notes in Gibraltar, it is not legal tender in the UK.
