KRW
South Korean Won
KRW is the official currency of South Korea. It is issued by the Bank of Korea and was formerly subdivided into 100 jeon.
The current won was introduced in 1962. It was pegged to the US dollar until 1997, when the Asian financial crisis forced a switch to free floating. The won is the tenth most frequently used currency globally. The Bank of Korea is considering eliminating coins due to rising digital payments.
