MVR
Maldivian Rufiyaa
MVR is the official currency of the Maldives. It is issued by the Maldives Monetary Authority and is subdivided into 100 laari.
The rufiyaa was introduced in 1947, replacing the Ceylon rupee. The name derives from Sanskrit 'rupya' meaning wrought silver. In 2022, the MMA introduced an official currency symbol (ރ) designed by Hassan Shujau. The currency operates under a managed floating exchange rate.
