MWK
Malawian Kwacha
MWK is the official currency of Malawi. It is issued by the Reserve Bank of Malawi and is subdivided into 100 tambala.
The kwacha was introduced in 1971, replacing the Malawian pound. The word 'kwacha' means 'dawn' in Chichewa. The currency has experienced significant devaluations, including 34% in 2012 when it was unpegged from the US dollar, 25% in 2022, and 44% in 2023.
