ZMW
Zambian Kwacha
ZMW is the official currency of Zambia. It is issued by the Bank of Zambia and is subdivided into 100 ngwee.
The current kwacha was introduced in 2013, replacing the old ZMK at 1,000:1. 'Kwacha' means 'dawn' in Bemba, symbolizing independence in 1964. In March 2025, the Bank of Zambia launched a new 'Heritage Series' of banknotes. The currency is sensitive to copper prices, Zambia's main export.
