AMD
Armenian Dram
AMD is the official currency of Armenia. It is issued by the Central Bank of Armenia and was introduced in 1993 following independence from the Soviet Union.
The word 'dram' means 'money' and is cognate with the Greek drachma and Arabic dirham. The dram was historically subdivided into 100 luma, though luma coins are rarely used. Banknotes feature cultural and historical Armenian motifs.
