Georgian Lari
GEL is the official currency of Georgia. It has been the sole legal tender since 1995 and is issued by the National Bank of Georgia.
The name 'lari' is an old Georgian word meaning 'hoard' or 'property.' The lari is subdivided into 100 tetri and operates under a floating exchange rate. The currency symbol (ლ) was officially adopted in 2014 and is included in the Unicode Standard.
