Bulgarian Lev

BGN is the official currency of Bulgaria. It is issued by the Bulgarian National Bank and is subdivided into 100 stotinki.

The lev has been pegged to the euro at 1.95583 BGN = 1 EUR since 1999 through a currency board. The name 'lev' means 'lion' in archaic Bulgarian. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, with both currencies circulating in parallel during the transition period.
