CLP
Chilean Peso
CLP is the official currency of Chile. It is managed by the Central Bank of Chile (Banco Central de Chile) and has been in circulation since 1975.
The Chilean peso replaced the escudo at a rate of 1 peso for 1,000 escudos. Since 1999, it has floated freely against the US dollar. The peso was divided into 100 centavos until 1996 when the subdivision was formally eliminated, requiring payments to be made in whole pesos. Chile also uses the CLF unit of account for inflation-indexed contracts.
