GHS
Ghanaian Cedi
GHS is the official currency of Ghana. It is issued by the Bank of Ghana and is subdivided into 100 pesewas.
The name 'cedi' comes from the Akan word for cowrie shell, historically used as currency. The current cedi was introduced in 2007 after redenomination at 10,000 old cedis = 1 new cedi. The currency experienced significant depreciation in 2022-2024 but has since stabilized.
