Gambian Dalasi

GMD is the official currency of The Gambia. It is issued by the Central Bank of The Gambia and is subdivided into 100 bututs.

The dalasi was introduced in 1971, replacing the Gambian pound at 5 dalasis = 1 pound. The Central Bank of The Gambia was established simultaneously in 1971. The dalasi operates under a managed floating exchange rate system determined by market forces.
