GTQ
Guatemalan Quetzal
GTQ is the official currency of Guatemala, named after the national bird, the resplendent quetzal. It is managed by the Bank of Guatemala (Banco de Guatemala).
The quetzal was introduced in 1925, replacing the Guatemalan peso. It is subdivided into 100 centavos. In ancient Mayan culture, quetzal feathers were used as currency. Since 1987, the quetzal has floated freely, though it has remained relatively stable at around 7.5-8 GTQ per USD.
