HNL
Honduran Lempira
HNL is the official currency of Honduras, named after the 16th-century indigenous Lenca leader Lempira. It is managed by the Central Bank of Honduras (Banco Central de Honduras).
The lempira was introduced in 1931, replacing the peso at par. It is subdivided into 100 centavos and operates under a crawling peg exchange rate regime. The Central Bank of Honduras is exploring a central bank digital currency (CBDC) with a focus on remittances.
