HUF
Hungarian Forint
HUF is the official currency of Hungary. It is issued by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (Central Bank of Hungary) and was introduced in 1946 to stabilize the economy after World War II hyperinflation.
The forint's name comes from the city of Florence, where gold coins called 'fiorino d'oro' were minted. It was formerly divided into 100 fillér, but fillér coins are no longer in circulation. As an EU member, Hungary may eventually adopt the euro, but no target date has been set.
