PYG

Paraguayan Guaraní

PYG is the official currency of Paraguay, named after the indigenous Guaraní people. It is issued by the Central Bank of Paraguay (Banco Central del Paraguay).

The guaraní was introduced in 1944, replacing the peso fuerte. Due to inflation, the céntimo subdivision is no longer in use, and the guaraní is one of the least valued currency units in the Americas. Banknotes are issued in denominations up to 100,000 guaraníes.
