TWD is the official currency of Taiwan. It is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and is subdivided into 100 cents.
The New Taiwan dollar was introduced in 1949 at a rate of 40,000 old dollars = 1 new dollar. The Central Bank has issued notes since 2000. Denominations include a rarely seen NT$2,000 note. Taiwan is exploring central bank digital currency development.
