KES

Kenyan Shilling

KES is the official currency of Kenya. It is issued by the Central Bank of Kenya and is subdivided into 100 cents.

The shilling replaced the East African shilling in 1966. In 2019, the Central Bank issued new banknotes without portraits of individuals, as mandated by Kenya's 2010 constitution. The notes feature the Big Five animals of Africa. Kenya has a well-developed forex market with competitive spreads.
