Kyrgyzstani Som
KGS is the official currency of Kyrgyzstan. It is issued by the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic and is subdivided into 100 tyiyn.
The som was introduced in 1993 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, replacing the Soviet ruble. Kyrgyzstan's economy is heavily reliant on remittances from workers abroad, particularly in Russia. The National Bank employs a managed floating exchange rate regime.
