SOS
Somali Shilling
SOS is the official currency of Somalia. It is issued by the Central Bank of Somalia and is subdivided into 100 senti.
The shilling dates from 1962 when it unified the currencies of former British and Italian Somaliland. Following civil war in the 1990s, the Central Bank ceased operations and rival currency producers emerged. The revived Central Bank is working with international organizations on currency reforms and anti-counterfeiting measures.
